BFF Gym Workouts You Need To Try

Working out with your best friend is not only fun, but it’s also a great way to motivate each other. In fact, research shows that people who partner up for their workouts are more likely to stick to their routine than those who work out alone. If you’re looking for some new gym workouts to try with your BFF, check out these seven exercises below. Not only will you get a great workout, but you’ll also have a ton of fun!

1- Plank It Out

There’s nothing like some friendly competition when it comes to working out with your bestie or gym partner. And why not start your workout with a plank competition. Not only will you both be activating your core muscles, but you can also push yourselves to see who can plank the longest.

First, get into plank position, making sure your shoulders are aligned over your wrists and that your body forms a straight line from your head to your heels. Then, engage your abs and hold the position for as long as you can. Once one of you starts to falter, see who can hold out the longest before dropping to the ground.

2- Medicine Ball Sit Up

Get ready to have your abs burn! Lie down on your back with your feet facing your bestie, and keep your knees up (sit-up position). Then take a medicine ball whilst you are still lying down and sit up with it, once you and your bestie are both eye-level pass the ball to them and finish the sit up starting back on the ground.  Repeat this exercise at least 10 times each or keep alternating until you can’t take it anymore!

3- Push-up and clap

Make push-ups that little bit harder by adding a hi-five with your bestie.  Start by positioning your body so your heads are facing each other. Get into push-up position whether you prefer to do it on your toes or your knees and do a push-up together at the same time. But, when you come up, extend your arms so they touch one another (or you can hi-five each other up to you) before placing it back down and finishing the push-up. Try and repeat this exercise at least for 2 mins or until your abs and arms are burning!

4- Boxing

Sometimes boxing a bag just isn’t the same as boxing with your gym partner or bestie.  And, it’s a great workout to do together! So to get started take some boxing gloves and pads and take turns doing the following sequence:

10 x upper cuts

10 x jabs on each arm

10 x left hooks

10 x right hooks

This should have your arms and abs burning, repeat 3 times each before moving onto your next exercise.  Lastly, remember to not hit too hard!

5- Box Jumps

Box jumps might not be difficult to do on your own but sometimes you need that extra person to spot you when making that leap! Plus, when you’re with your bestie you will 100% have more fun and you have a ready-made cheer squad when you do land perfectly on your feet.

To start, simply find a plyo box at the gym and ask your partner to spot you as you use all your lower body to jump onto the box. Remember to try and land softly on the box and start at the lowest level before challenging yourself to move to a higher level. Box jumps are a form of plyometric exercise which is great for working out the lower body.

6- Cardio Together

Finish your workout strong with a 15 min jog on the treadmill together. Running on the treadmill is one of the best ways to get your heart rate up and increase your cardio. You can also use this time to catch up on some girl talk while you’re sweating it out!

If you are not a fan of the treadmill, you could pick the cross-trainer to work out on or even better- hit the rowing machine! Rowing is a great full-body workout and it’s also a fun way to challenge each other to see who can row the furthest in 15 mins. Whichever cardio machine you pick, it’s a fantastic way to finish your workout together and make sure you’re both dripping with sweat by the end!

7- Cool Down Stretch

Alas, you are finally at the best stage of the workout – the cool down stretch! This is the perfect time to bond with your BFF and just take a few minutes to relax, unwind and reflect on all the amazing things you have just achieved.

Not only is working out with a friend more fun, but you will also be more motivated to push each other to reach your fitness goals. So, what are you waiting for? Go try out these BFF gym workouts and let us know how it goes!
